A coastal lighthouse at the edge of the open sea
Slåtterøy Lighthouse stands on an island north of Brandasund, at the entrance to Selbjørnsfjorden. The lighthouse station was established in 1859 and has been an important navigational mark for traffic along the coast.
The lighthouse was automated in 1988 and destaffed in 2003. The station is protected, and its buildings and landscape are a visible part of the area’s maritime cultural history.
A visit requires planning
There is no road to Slåtterøy. A visit requires a boat and must be planned according to weather, sea conditions and a current local service. Access, transport and possible guided tours may vary during the season. Visit Brandasund does not accept bookings.
